Richmond parish festival on the go with fan-favorite events
St. Augustine Catholic Church is on the go with golfing, a cruise-in and cornhole this summer, as the church’s annual Parish Festival returns to Richmond Aug. 8 to 11. Festival Chairperson Valerie Oehmke said via email on July 5 that the St. Augustine Parish Festival remains the church’s largest fundraiser of the year. Although there is no cost to attend the festival as a whole, proceeds raised from individual activities at the festival benefit the church.
5K for firefighters set for Family Day in New Haven
Families and firefighters will come together in New Haven on Aug. 10, when Haven Place will host its annual free Family Day event downtown. Family Day will get bigger and better this year, said Haven Place CEO Tina Nagy, with more added to traditional activities such as kids entertainment and a 5K as well as another fundraiser for firefighters.

Incumbent Lenox Township Supervisor Anthony Reeder Jr. is facing opposition in the Aug. 6 primary election. Reeder, a Republican, is being challenged by Scott Clifford, a Republican and current township trustee. Port Huron Civic Theatre to put on 'SpongeBob the Musical'
PORT HURON — A cartoon that many have grown up with is being brought to life on stage at McMorran Place. "SpongeBob the Musical" is based off the Nickelodeon cartoon "SpongeBob SquarePants," which follows the sea sponge, SpongeBob, and his friends in Bikini Bottom. The musical will take its audience through their very own episode of the cartoon. Director Danyel Lloyd said Port Huron Civic Theatre wanted to put on a fun show that could showcase the variety of talent the community has to offer.
