Known for shareable bar bites, fun cocktails and live music, the Morrie in Royal Oak will serve its last bowl of loaded waffle fries this weekend. Owner Aaron F. Belen of AFB Hospitality Group is renting the space to restaurateur Nicolas Andreasson who owns Blind Owl in New Baltimore, Michigan. The former Morrie space at 511 S. Main in downtown Royal Oak will be the second location for Blind Owl, where the concept will be “modern Latin and sushi infusion,” according to a press release issued Thursday afternoon.

Local Rite Aid stores to close
Three local Rite Aid stores are among the more than 150 Michigan locations the pharmacy chain is shutting down. “Closing” signs appeared this week at the Pine Grove Avenue and 24th Street stores in Port Huron, along with the Gratiot Blvd. location in Marysville. The company began bankruptcy filings this past fall due in part to litigation related to the opioid crisis. Since declaring bankruptcy, Rite Aid has reportedly closed more than 500 stores nationwide with fewer than two dozen locations in Michigan still remaining . Unless customers make other arrangements, the company has previously stated all prescriptions are being transferred to Walgreens stores along with all pharmacy inventory. The final day of operation at the three locations is still unknown, but store merchandise is quickly becoming scarce.
Three Suspects Charged After Alleged Assault on Memphis Officer and High-Speed Chase
Following a tense confrontation with law enforcement, three men face multiple charges for their alleged involvement in firing a shot at a Memphis Police officer and other criminal activities.
