Rain and thunderstorms relieve NCWV of heat wave
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Tuesday’s temperatures ran well into the 90s in the early afternoon, but a line of rain and thunderstorms swept through and significantly cooled the area. Storms wielded heavy rain which did cause some very localized flash flooding in poor drainage areas, but in general, the rain was necessary, as much of NCWV is under some level of drought. Wednesday will feature more scattered showers and storms throughout the day, which could pose similar flooding issues. Wednesday’s temperatures won’t get nearly as hot as the past few days, but humidity will still be high. It’s not until a cold front crosses the area late Wednesday night/early Thursday morning that humidity lowers and rain clears. From there, temperatures will hover in the low to mid-80s in the lowlands through the weekend (for the mountains, mid-upper 70s) with comfortable humidity. Higher elevations will likely see some rain Saturday afternoon into the early evening, but lowlands will stay dry until the beginning of next week.
