King — West Stokes’ rising senior Alyssa Sparks is looking forward to the Wildcats’ softball season next year. She’s excited to be a senior and help lead a team that advanced to the third round of the state playoffs this past season.
Sparks plays both softball and tennis and has racked up the allocates in both sports. She and doubles partner Katheryn Davis have won back-to-back doubles tournament championships advancing to Regionals each of the past two seasons.
In softball, she was All-Conference, All-County, and All-District during her junior year. Sparks also added Top Gun All-American and Top Gun All-American MVP to her list of accomplishments while playing on travel softball team, Carolina Cardinals Yates.
One of the best things about Sparks is her bubbly personality. She loves people and loves talking to them.
Sparks is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Club Unify, the Spirit Club, the Debate Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She plans to attend Roanoke College in the fall of 2025 and play softball. Sparks will get her undergraduate degree in pre-occupational therapy and then transfer into a graduate program.
The Stokes News was able to catch up with Alyssa and she allowed us to get to know her on a more personal level by answering the following questions:
Favorite Food: My mom’s home cooked lasagna
Favorite Subject: Science, specifically biology
Biggest Influence: My mom has taught me everything I know like how to be polite, manners, respect, and mostly to be kind. She’s taught me how to be strong and make good choices. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my mom.
Favorite TV Show: ”Gilmore Girls”
Favorite Music: I love all music but here lately I love listening to worship music
Favorite Website: I love to shop online and Shein has to be my most visited website
Favorite Day of the Year: Thanksgiving, tons of food, family and football
Favorite Ice Cream: Mint Chocolate Chip
Pets: A Golden Doodle named Bo
Favorite Coach/Teacher: My travel ball coach Kevin Yates. He’s coached me since I was seven and he has always believed in me. He helped form me into the athlete I am today, and I don’t know where I would be without him.
Dream Vacation: Rio de Janeiro
Dream Job: Occupational Therapy
Hobbies: I love reading and painting
Favorite Athlete: Karlyn Pickens, she is a sophomore pitcher for Tennessee. She’s such an amazing athlete and she plays for my favorite team.
