    Rec League Notes: Pickle in the Park returning to Fun Fest

    KINGSPORT — Registration is open for a variety of sporting events during Fun Fest 2024.

    Men’s open registration in the Adult One Pitch Softball Tournament ends July 8 at 5 p.m. with the tournament scheduled to start July 13 at 10 a.m. Coed registration ends July 15 at 5 p.m. with the tournament scheduled July 22-24. All games will be played at Brickyard Park in Kingsport. The cost to register a team is $150. Blind draws will be held live on the Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page on July 9 at noon for men’s open and July 16 at noon for coed.

    The Fun Fest Outdoor Volleyball Tournament will be played July 20-21. The fee is $30 for doubles, $45 for triples and $60 for quads. Rosters and fees are due by July 17. The men’s doubles and women’s triples will be played July 20. The coed doubles and coed quads are July 21. All games will be at 2969 Sullivan Gardens Parkway.

    Pickle in the Park, a two-day tournament, will take place at Riverview Park (300 Louis St.) on July 19-20 with 11 divisions of various age groups and skill levels, including 55+ mixed doubles, youth 14 and under, 55+ doubles, intermediate and advanced mixed, beginner, intermediate doubles and advanced doubles. The cost to register is $40 per team; only one person needs to register. Players need to register as a team and list partner’s name at the end of checkout. The times for the games are based on the divisions.

    Fall soccer registration underway in Rogersville

    ROGERSVILLE — Registration is underway for the AYSO Region 1336 fall soccer leagues for youth ages 3-13.

    The fee is $75 per player (with a $22 discount if a new uniform is not needed for returning players).

    Register online at www.ayso1336.org. Or register in person on July 12, July 19 and July 26-27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Rogersville Parks and Recreation Building. The registration deadline is July 31.

    Church Hill soccer deadline is July 12

    CHURCH HILL — Soccer signups are underway for Church Hill Parks and Recreation league play. Signups are open to youth ages 4-6, 7-9 and 10-13. The deadline to register for soccer is July 12.

    Small Weight Cardio continues

    ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville Parks and Recreation and Moving-U Fitness will continue the Small Weight Cardio class with ACE-certified personal trainer Neal Ewing on Monday nights from 6-7 p.m. at the Rogersville City Park stage.

    Two Kingsport playgrounds closing for upgrades

    KINGSPORT — Two Kingsport parks will soon be receiving new playground equipment.

    A section of Riverview Park and the playground at Riverfront Park will be closed temporarily until new playground equipment is installed. The city of Kingsport anticipates the parks will reopen in early August.

    Summer tennis lessons on tap

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is offering summer tennis lessons July 8-11 with sessions for adaptive needs, 10 and under, and 11 and above. The classes will take place Monday through Thursday at the Borden Park tennis courts.

    10 and under will be from 5-6 p.m.

    Adaptive needs will be from 6-7 p.m.

    11 and above will be from 7-8:30 p.m.

    Registration is $60 per person. Students will learn the basics of tennis, including hand-eye coordination and motor skills. To register, visit https://bit.ly/4b8GqJO.     Kingsport offering specialty camps

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is offering a series of specialty camps this summer for children and teenagers with each one focusing on a specific activity for an entire week.

    Remaining specialty camps include:

    LEGO Camp: (July 8-12 from 9-11 a.m. at Borden Park) — Our LEGO specialty camp is where creativity, imagination and building come to life in a world of colorful bricks and endless possibilities. Throughout themed workshops, experiments and challenges, campers will learn the fine art of building while having a blast with LEGO bricks. Participants will receive a LEGO set. Ages 6-12.

    Pickleball Camp: (July 8-12 from 9-10:30 a.m. at Riverview Park pickleball courts) — The pickleball camp offers participants the opportunity to refine their skills and enhance their understanding of the fundamentals of the sport. Participants will receive instruction on the fundamentals and mechanics tailored to their skill and experience. Ages 8-14.

    Youth pickleball lessons coming in July

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department will offer youth pickleball lessons for children interested in learning the basics. Classes will be held every Monday from July 8-29 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Riverview Pickleball Courts at the V.O. Dobbins Sr. Complex (301 Louis St.).

    During this four-week course, children will learn the rules of pickleball from a certified instructor, including hitting and dinking, while performing drills for speed, footwork and agility. All equipment will be provided.

    The registration fee is $60 per person for city residents and $65 per person for non-city residents. The course is open to children ages 8-14. To register, visit https://bit.ly/3Qp2DeZ.
