4th of July holiday brings people outside to celebrate

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL)- The warm weather and sunshine brought people outside to enjoy the 4th of July holiday. Warriors Path State Park was filled with people on the lake and having picnics.

Matthew Johnson and his family went to the Kingsport Independence Day parade to kick off their holiday celebrations.

“It’s one of the best in the state, it was well attended,” said Johnson. “A lot of patriotic floats, it was awesome.”

Johnson told News Channel 11 that his family likes to celebrate a lot of holidays at Warriors Path. This year, they had a picnic.

“We’re making hamburgers and hotdogs, you can’t get any more American than that,” said Johnson. “We’re actually going to go meet with some family and friends and head out on Boone Lake later on this evening, so a lot of fun. It’s a full day.”

One group of friends was also enjoying a nice cookout at Warriors Path by grilling steak.

“I’m here with my friends, coworkers, but I consider them my friends,” said Alan Gutierrez. “We’re out here grilling at this lake. It is beautiful.”

Gutierrez and his friends said they have plans to go see a fireworks show later in the evening.

“The 4th of July means a lot to the locals and all of America,” said Gutierrez. “We’re out here celebrating how free we are, God bless America and cheers.”
