    Kingsport & Bristol, TN police receive 50 fireworks calls on 4th of July

    KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – Police in Kingsport and Bristol, Tennessee, received a combined 50 calls for fireworks disturbances on Independence Day.

    Between the two cities, neither of which allows fireworks in their city limits , one citation was issued.

    A spokesperson for the Kingsport Police Department (KPD) said on Friday that officers had answered 33 fireworks calls since Wednesday. The KPD had issued one citation for fireworks in that timeframe.

    The KPD expects those numbers to increase over the course of Friday night and into the weekend.

    The Bristol Tennessee Police Department (BTPD) received 17 calls related to fireworks on the 4th of July, a spokesperson for the department said. The BTPD had not issued any citations for fireworks as of Friday.

    The Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) plans to provide information on fireworks citations in its jurisdiction on Monday. In 2023, the JCPD issued nine illegal fireworks citations.
