KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Adults and children took to the Allandale Mansion grounds on Tuesday to paint designs on trash barrels that will used during Fun Fest and other events throughout the year.

Painters were asked to paint original designs along with themes that encourage recycling, litter prevention and litter-free Fun Fest events.

Keep Kingsport Beautiful Director Sharon Hayes said the Fun Fest Trash Barrel Paint-In helps people feel like they are part of their community and encourages them to refrain from littering.

“It helps people to be part of the community and to make sure that you know their community is going to remain clean,” Hayes said. “Even though you might have thousands of people out at Fun Fest enjoying the events, [they’re] going to keep it clean.”

Hayes said they had 440 preregistrations for barrels and sold 75 from walk-ups at the event.
