    Model City 101 to cover different city government roles

    KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The City of Kingsport is encouraging citizens to enroll in a new program that will educate the public about the role of city government in their daily lives.

    Model City 101 will instruct Kingsportians in how the city government operates and why some actions are taken, a news release from the city states.

    Applications are being accepted for the free adult education program. Model City 101 is an eight-week course that will run from Sept. 5 through Oct. 24. A graduation will be held Nov. 5.

    Classes will meet weekly and will give those enrolled a look into different city departments and services. The classes will be held at different locations across Kingsport and will feature speakers from all aspects of the city’s government, including transit, public works, parks and recreation and police and fire.

    According to the release, class size is limited, and registration will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. To register for the program click here . The registration deadline is Aug. 14.
