    KPD: Driver dies after Friday crash on John B. Dennis Highway

    KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The driver injured in a crash on S John B. Dennis Highway Friday has died, the Kingsport Police Department (KPD) announced Monday.

    According to the KPD, Noah Pence, 25 of Kingsport, passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center on Sunday night.

    Pence was injured in a crash that occurred around 4:45 a.m. on Friday on S. John B. Dennis Highway just south of Fort Henry Drive. Pence had been driving a 2013 blue Ford Focus that hit a bridge railing on the left side of the road for unknown reasons.

    The KPD reports Pence overcorrected and hit another vehicle then left the roadway on the right side of the highway. The Ford struck a tree after leaving the road and caught fire.

    Pence was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after the crash, which he ultimately succumbed to. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

    His body was taken to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center for an autopsy.

    As of Monday, the crash remains under investigation.
