(WJHL) – The Appalachian League West Division championship game is set, as Kingsport surged to a win on Tuesday to claim the final postseason slot.

The Johnson City Doughboys needed a win at the start of the night just to remain in the hunt for the playoffs.

Colby Backus opened things up with a two-run homer in the first, as the squad scored four runs in the first inning. The Doughboys would go on to topple the Bristol State Liners, 12-2.

Nate Conner contributed three RBI in the win, while Backus, Braden Spano and Kyler Proctor each had two RBI.

But, their divisional hopes were dashed by the result from Bluefield.

The Axmen opened the scoring against the Ridge Runners with three tallies in the third and never trailed again in an 8-3 win.

Cal Sefcik went 3-for-4 at the dish, tallying three RBI and scoring a run. Mason Swinney also chipped in a pair of RBI in the victory.

Kingsport will travel to Greeneville on Thursday for the West Division championship matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Pioneer Park.
