    Kingsport Farmers Market to host Homegrown Tomato Fest

    KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Homegrown Tomato Fest will return to the Kingsport Farmers Market on Aug. 10.

    The event will take place at the farmers market (308 Clinchfield Street) from 9 a.m. – noon.

    The festival will offer the following activities:

    • Kids’ decorating tables (decorate your own tomato or use our red plate replacement)
    • Live music at 9 a.m.
    • A children’s activity by the Kingsport Public Library
    • Peak Young Professionals will make tomato sandwiches starting at 10 a.m.
    • Tomato contest for biggest, ugliest and best dressed (drop off tomatoes by 9 a.m., the winner will be announced at 11:30 a.m.)
    Brights Zoo: A staple in the Limestone community

    A salsa canning class will also be offered at the event for $10 per person. To register for the class, click here .

    Community members will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite salsa in the Salsa Showdown event.

    The Salsa Showdown is open to the public, all salsa must be homemade and tomatoes must be used. Contestants will be required to supply a minimum of one quart of salsa and limit three entries per household.

    This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Homegrown Tomato Fest in Kingsport.
