JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A woman in Region 8 is taking the initiative to support and educate young women about feminine hygiene. The founder of the Impact 2024 period poverty drive, Sonya Sanders, said she usually participates in back-to-school drives every year, but this year, she wanted to do something different.
Pine Bluff School District plans to sell old office center, schools
Pine Bluff School District officials are planning to sell the district's former administration building and two elementary schools. Members of the PBSD board facilities committee met Tuesday morning for a work session to discuss advertising for the best offers on the old multistory administration building on Sixth Avenue, as well as Indiana Street and Oak Park elementary schools. Superintendent Jennifer Barbaree explained selling the campuses would help the district eliminate the costs of insurance and upkeep for the facilities, which have been closed for years, as well as remove its liability for homeless people who she said continues to break into elementary schools.

A St. Louis-based organ transplant organization hopes to use drones to transport blood samples. Mid-America Transplant is an organ and tissue procurement organization that serves eastern Missouri, southern Illinois and northeast Arkansas. It currently transports blood samples and other organ donation-related matter by ground vehicle or aircraft, which can be time-consuming and costly. A trip to deliver blood samples by aircraft costs around $10,000.

At the Metal Museum on Thursday, state and local leaders joined Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt to celebrate plans to rebuild the Interstate 55 bridge that connects Tennessee and Arkansas and the $393.7 million federal investment awarded as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act. On July 12, U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen and Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced the federal grant that would aid in the total funding of the project, which is estimated to cost between $800 million and $1 billion.

Compared to this day last week, the price has risen by seven cents. Today's price is two cents less per gallon compared to this day last year.

Engineering Applications in Agriculture is an accelerator created with funding from the U of A College of Engineering, the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station and the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.
