Grand Rapids Woman Wins $1 Million Playing Powerball
A 66-year-old Grand Rapids woman got the surprise of her life last month when she discovered that she had bought a Powerball ticket worth $1 million. Lisa Cecil said in a release from the Michigan Lottery that she was so shocked (and a little in disbelief) that she ran around her house after midnight, waking up everyone in the home. She wanted them to look at her ticket and confirm that she had one. (Honestly, Lisa, I would have done the exact same thing!)
Sault Ste. Marie closer to $2.5M grant for the I-500 thanks to state budget
SAULT STE. MARIE — $250,000 from Michigan’s 2025 budget will be going to enhancing the Soo International-500 Snowmobile Racetrack by way of a community enhancement grant. The Sault Ste. Marie Convention & Visitors Bureau said the funding will allow for major progress to be made towards the goal of renovating parts of the I-500 track and surrounding property. The community enhancement grant funding will go towards helping the Sault CVB and City of Sault Ste. Marie fulfill the requirements needed to receive a $2.5 million grant. “To me it means so much to our community,” said Sault CVB Executive Director Linda Hoath. “To have our legislators have our back and help improve our area means everything to us.” The I-500 is a vital part to the Eastern Upper Peninsula’s economy during winter months and drives tourist in from across the Midwest and Ontario.
Two Men Sentenced for Fond du Lac Walmart Heist
The two Michigan men who stole over $3,500 in Apple Watches from the Fond du Lac Walmart have been sentenced. FOX11 reports that Ricky Bell was ordered to spend four years in prison, while Jaylon Autry was given a 3.5-year sentence, and both men will spend four years on extended supervision upon their release.
