KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Around 50 workers on a mission set out across the Wyoming Valley and Back Mountain this week as part of the United in Mission organization.

Teams of both adults and youth will be busy all week with yard work, painting, deck reconstruction, and basic home repairs while working with local nonprofit agencies.

They help those less fortunate who are physically not able to repair their homes.

This religious-based organization originally started in Texas and has been going on for around 40 years.

It came to the northeast around 15 years ago and continues to grow each summer.

“I definitely think it’s fulfilling and I like it. Helps your soul, it fills you up with joy,” said Trucksville resident Paige Banks.

“You get to hang out with these people while you’re doing the work. So, helping them is one thing, but also you get to connect with them. You get to learn. You get to help them. It’s wonderful, I love all of it,” said Myra Fortin from Mechanicsburg.

The organization reaches out to local churches to help recruit members of their youth groups from sixth grade through college age who want to volunteer their time.
