Woman arrested after speeding past, nearly hitting law enforcement officers in Kinston

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — Officers with the Kinston Police Department responded to W. Washington Ave. Monday for reports of shots being fired.

Officers were searching the area when a 24-year-old woman, Shaniya Thompson, drove by them at a high speed, almost hitting an officer. They chased Thompson until another shots fired call came in.

While searching the area of the second call, officers said Thompson did it again, driving past them at a high speed. This time, they chased her and eventually took her into custody.

Thompson’s vehicle was taken by law enforcement and she was charged with:

• Felony fleeing to elude arrest
• Driving while impaired
• Felony assault on a law enforcement officer
• Reckless driving to endanger
• Multiple traffic violations
