KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) — The Kinston City Council will consider a resolution to apply for a $20 million from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through their Environmental and Climate Justice Community Change Grants program.

The goal is to address the environmental and economic challenges that East Kinston faces. The EPA has allocated $2.8 billion to support communities nationwide in preventing climate resilience and promoting environmental justice.

Kinston Teens , a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development of the community in East Kinston recognized what this grant could do for them and approached the City Council with the idea. The City of Kinston is considering applying the grant aiming to enhance climate resilience, reduce pollution and improve community health and economic opportunities.

Applications are being accepted until November 21, 2024.
