The application period for the next session of the North Carolina Rural Center’s Homegrown Leaders training is now open. People who live or work in eastern North Carolina are encouraged to apply. The training will be held September 10-12 in Kinston.

Homegrown Leaders is a three-day regional leadership and community economic development training that equips existing and emerging leaders with the skills they need to lead long-term economic advancement in their community and region. Participating rural leaders will gain an understanding of the importance of using a regional lens for developing long-term, sustainable solutions to common challenges and for capitalizing on innovative opportunities for growth, noted a news release from the NC Rural Center.

Participants will also learn and apply skills needed to address the critical issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, adaptive leadership and community economic development.

“Leadership development has been a core part of our work for more than 35 years,” said NC Rural Center president and CEO Patrick Woodie. “And now more than ever, our rural communities need leaders who can connect and collaborate across county lines.”

The application period is open through August 13. Applicants accepted into the program will be notified by August 16. Accepted applicants will be expected to register and pay the registration fee of $350 no later than August 25. There are a limited number of scholarships available.

“We are excited to welcome another group of current and emerging leaders to complete the Homegrown Leaders training and join our extensive network of leadership alumni across the state,” said NC Rural Center director of leadership training Olaunda Green. “By equipping rural leaders, we empower them with the resources needed to have the greatest impact on their communities.”
