MARINA, Calif. (KION-TV) Two suspects were arrested Monday night after allegedly leading Marina Police officers on a high-speed chase out of the city.

Police said at around 9:30 p.m., officers noticed a car blocking the road while they were conducting a close patrol on 3000 block of Owen Ave. After realizing the car had been stolen out of Seaside, officers approached the vehicle, but the driver took off.

Officers pursued the suspects along southbound Highway 1 towards the city of Monterey. During the chase, police said the suspects fired one shot at the pursuing officers. The pursuit continued until the car exited the highway into Monterey. The driver lost control of the car, crashing into several trees, which disabled the vehicle.

The suspects were arrested without further incident, according to police. They have been identified as 19-year old Elijah Hauk Salazar of Marina and 19-year old Miguel Angel Munoz Hernandez of Monterey. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded gun and a spent shell casing. Investigators believe only one shot was fired because the gun jammed.

Salazar, the alleged driver, was charged with attempted murder, felony evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, DUI, and may face additional charges pending the investigation. Hernandez, identified as the passenger, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a stolen vehicle.

No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting. The case remains an active investigation by Marina Police and the CHP.
