A man died from his injuries after he was shot at a West Seattle restaurant Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the 4600 block of 36th Avenue Southwest at 4 p.m.

According to Seattle Police, officers quickly arrived and inside a business found a 29-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. The victim’s loved ones told KIRO 7 he was shot while working at Seattle Soul Kitchen, which is about a block from the West Seattle Golf Course.

Seattle Fire Department medics rushed the man to Harborview Medical Center, but he later died from his injuries.

Police say the shooter opened fire inside the Distinguished Foods Kitchen Rental Commercial Commissary Kitchen, which appears to share the building with Seattle Soul Kitchen.

“There were multiple people in the same room where the shooting took place, on top of the victim also, so we’re lucky that this wasn’t worse, but again, our hearts go out to the family of the person who was killed today,” said Seattle Police Sgt. Patrick Michaud.

Detectives are still investigating whether the victim was targeted or if the shooting was random.

Witnesses described a possible suspect fleeing the area as a Black man, possibly between 20 to 30 years old, wearing all black and a blue surgical mask. He was last seen walking away from the area. Investigators didn’t find a gun at the scene, so he may still be armed.

Homicide detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence. Anyone with information about a possible suspect is asked to contact the SPD tip line at (206) 233-5000.
