Here’s Where Stacking Rocks Can Get You a Citation for Vandalism
I've seen them, and I'm sure you have, too. Rocks are stacked and balanced in various formations on hiking trails, beaches, and in deserts. There's actually something artful about it and very Zen. With summer travel and all of us spending so much more time outdoors, this is a good...
There’s a Reason You Have Room for Dessert Even When You’re Absolutely Stuffed From Dinner
Ugh! You're stuffed to the gills after eating your scrumptious dinner. However, even if you can't even stomach another French fry or bite of chicken, you're totally ready to eat more but only if it's dessert. Yup, we've all been there time and time again. Whether we share a dessert or not, we go for it even when all other food sounds horrible.
Most Expensive Town in the U.S. Is Also One of the Most Popular Summer Vacation Destinations
Have you tried guessing? With so much pricey real estate all over the country it's hard to believe it can be narrowed to down to a single town. Before I saw which town is the most expensive place to live in the United States, I couldn't help but guess it's going to be on the water. However the wealthy winter and summer havens of Aspen, Colorado, or Jackson Hole, Wyoming crossed my mind as well but alas, water rules in this case.
If You Like Piña Coladas, Get in the Kitchen and Make This Pie!
I grew up listening to Rupert Holmes' big hit "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)." The song was released back in 1979 and eventually climbed all the way to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. I loved "The Piña Colada Song" as a kid and now love Piña Coladas...
Brad Pitt ‘Upset’ Daughter Shiloh Has Changed Her Last Name: REPORT
Brad Pitt is reportedly "aware and upset" about his daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt opting to drop the Pitt part of her last name. The 18-year-old filed for the change a week ago. "He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter," a source apparently said, per People.
Why This Fruit is Mandatory for Your Summer Drinking
Summer often means more outdoor parties, get togethers, and of course dining alfresco which often translates to partaking in our favorite adult beverages a bit more than normal. Whether you're on that summer vacation, by the pool, on the beach, or enjoying your own backyard, we drink more. Now this...
This Venomous Indiana Snake Has a Unique Defensive Odor
I have written before about a handful of venomous snakes that can be found in Indiana. There aren't a lot of them, but I think it's worth a few minutes of your time to learn which ones to be aware of. One of the scariest things about snakes is how...
New Mac and Cheese Festival Heading to This Indiana City
Fans of Mac and Cheese will be able to get their fill of cheesy goodness, craft beer, live music, and more at Indiana's new Mac and Cheese Festival. Mac and cheese is one of my favorite dishes in which to indulge. In my opinion, the creamier, the better. While I usually keep the box stuff stocked in my kitchen pantry, I now prefer making my own from scratch. Recently, I started cooking it in my backyard smoker to add a nice kiss of smoke to my noodles and sharp cheddar cheese sauce. (10/10 recommend) Regardless of how you like to prepare your mac and cheese, I'm sure you'll be able to find quite a few you like at a new festival heading to northern Indiana in July 2024.
Report Card Rewards: Free Stuff For Good Grades in the Owensboro Area
The end of the school year is a time for celebration! It's a chance for students to take a deep breath and think about all of their hard work over the past ten months. And to help with the celebration, some businesses offer rewards for report cards! Yes, this is still a thing. I remember loving this type of program when I was a student, and I'm happy that there are places around that offer incentives for students, as it's a great way to build community and foster relationships, and for this dad of three, it's really good on my wallet. I called around the Owensboro area (and had to widen my scope a bit) and here are the programs I found that participate in a report card program (if I missed you, I promise it was inadvertent, and you can email us at evansville.dme@townsquaremedia.com and let us know of your participation). Hopefully we'll be able to add to this list in the near future!
8 of the Creepiest Abandoned Places You Can Visit in the Midwest
There's nothing eerier than exploring a place that has been totally abandoned, and there are some very creepy places right here in the Midwest! The website Love Exploring outlines 95 abandoned sites in the U.S., and although there aren't any Iowa places on their list, we know of a couple of good ones.
New Streaming Service Allows Viewers to Create Episodes With AI
A new tech company wants to offer its users the ability to make their own episodes of shows they watch through the use of AI. The site is called Showrunner, and it claims that its shows “aren't like ordinary TV shows” because “they are powered by SIMULATIONS built by Fable Simulation.” Users can supposedly “upload yourself, your friends, your characters to Sim Francisco and use them in shows.”
National Geographic To Highlight Cicada Madness in One Illinois Village
Cicada mania is in high gear right now in parts of Illinois, and National Geographic just stopped in one Illinois village to photograph the craziness. Never in a million years did I think I would ever be excited about millions of insects taking over the small village I live in, but here we are living our best cicada-obsessed life.
St. Louis Area Restaurant Won’t Let Anyone Under 30 Eat There
A St. Louis area restaurant is trying something I've never heard of before, but I understand why they're doing it. They won't allow anyone under 30 inside or to eat there emphasizing that it's a place for adults only. This is an interesting story shared by KSDK in St. Louis...
Two Kentucky Cities Named Among ‘The 20 Friendliest Towns in the South’
Southern Living just published its list of The 20 Friendliest Towns in the South. Topping that list in 2024 is the small town of Covington, Louisiana. From Mayor Mark Johnson, who makes a point to engage with visitors and constituents (he even leads free Zumba classes), to welcoming business owners, to public events that give people a reason to gather, Covington has created a new definition of Southern hospitality.
With an 8-foot Wingspan, This is the Largest Bird You Can Encounter in Kentucky
I see birds of prey every day. Either in the morning or evening (as long as it's still light enough), at least two will be a part of the scenery. They're both red-tailed hawks, although spotting a bald eagle around here wouldn't be out of the ordinary, either. The hawks'...
Indiana Campground Features Sign With Hilariously Specific Bathroom Instructions
The next time you're watching TV, watch a few of the ads instead of flipping or fast-forwarding through a commercial break. You will notice that most of the commercials and/or products come with some sort of disclaimer. Car commercials are known for the infamous "Professional driver on a closed road. Do not attempt." disclaimer.
Southern Indiana’s Firefly Festival Includes Tram Rides to Peak Viewing Areas
You won't want to miss the Firefly Festival this weekend, including tours to see dozens light up the night. Did you know that Indiana had an official insect? I had no idea. It turns out the insect of the Hoosier state is the firefly. Which, speaking of, do you call them fireflies or lightning bugs?
3 Reasons To Go Teepee Glamping In Illinois’ Shawnee National Forest
Ditch the tent and embrace the teepee at this unique glamping experience at Illinois' Shawnee National Forest this summer. Some people love pitching a tent and sleeping on the ground in the middle of the forest during the summer; I am 100 percent not one of those people. Don't get...
