KITTERY, Maine — The filing period for Town Council and Kittery School Committee candidacy for the Nov. 5 election has opened.
Three Kittery Town Council seats and two seats on the school committee will be on the ballot.
All elected positions in Maine’s oldest town carry three-year terms. The winners of each seat will begin their terms in the days following the election’s conclusion.

Town Council fixture Judy Spiller, the body’s current chairperson, will see her current three-year term end in November and her seat will be on the ballot. Two other council positions now filled by vice chairperson Colin McGuire and member Cyrus Clark are also expiring. The trio won their seats in the November 2021 election, defeating ex-councilor and town police sergeant Charles Denault, and their present terms will officially end on Nov. 11.
Two School Committee positions presently held by Annie Cicero, the board’s vice chairperson, and member Nikolas Franks will be featured on the ballot in November.
How to file to run in Kittery 2024 election
Kittery residents interested in elected office can receive candidate nomination materials at Town Clerk Jillian Richards’ office at Town Hall. The clerk’s office is open Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p..m, on Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Fridays from 8:30 a..m. until 1:30 p.m.
All candidate nomination paperwork must be filed with Richards by Friday, Sept. 6 at 1:30 p.m., according to the town. Residents seeking to have their name included on the ballot via write-in must file a declaration of candidacy with Richards’ office by that same deadline.
The town and state referendum election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 5 at the Kittery Community Center. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
