Fire crews in California have been busy working to contain and extinguish numerous wildfires that erupted over the weekend after more than 100 lightning strikes were reported inside Tahoe National Forest in just 24 hours.

Lightning Likely Cause of Several Fires in the Hills Around Willow Creek
Lightning which peppered the Willow Creek area this afternoon is a likely cause of a two acre fire, the #HillFire which was reported about 6 p.m. An air attack on its way to look at a reported fire, the #HorseFire southeast of Ruth Lake on Horse Ridge spotted the #HillFire. However, those are not the only fires spotted since the lightning storm. The air attack is also reporting two fires, the #GreyFire that are single trees on fire off Hennessy Road–so far that’s four reported fires following the lightning storm.

Suspect of Bridgeville homicide identified by Humboldt County Sheriff's Office
HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — On Sunday the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) arrested this man, twenty-year-old Melvin Portillo from Sacramento, California for homicide. HCSO said deputies were dispatched to the 27000 block of Highway 36 near Bridgeville on Sunday, for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they said they discovered one man dead and arrested Portillo for homicide.

Around 10:40 a.m. this morning, emergency personnel received a report of a vegetation fire in the Fruitland Ridge area of Southern Humboldt, northeast of Myers Flat. The fire was originally reported to be 1/4 acre in size with a moderate rate of spread had grown to approximately 2 acres in size according to Cal Fire Air Attack via scanner transmission.
