On Wednesday at 11:29 a.m. an air quality alert was issued for Klamath and Lake counties. According to the National Weather Service, "Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Pollution Advisory in effect until noon Friday. The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality issued an air quality advisory for Klamath and Lake counties due to numerous wildfires burning in the region. DEQ also expects intermittent smoke in Eastern Douglas, Jackson and Josephine counties through at least Friday due to smoke from surrounding fires. The wildfire smoke combined with forecast conditions will cause air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels. Smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather and planned burn operations. Smoke can irritate the eyes and lungs and worsen some medical conditions. People most at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: - Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. - Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. - People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. - Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems. - Avoid using wood-burning stoves and other sources of indoor smoke if possible."

On Tuesday morning (July 30, 2024) just after 4:00am, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted to a report that a 47-year-old Chiloquin man was intentionally shot by another man in a remote area near Bray Mill and Kirk Road (NE of Chiloquin, Oregon) while they were cutting firewood. The suspect was last seen by the victim and a witness running into the woods and firing a handgun as they drove away to seek medical help. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for a single gunshot wound (non-life threatening). Deputies, assisted by members of the Klamath County Major Crime Team, attempted to locate the suspect throughout the day without success. The suspect was identified as being Travis Crosby (age 46).

On July 30th, 2024, at approximately 2:57 p.m., Klamath 9-1-1 Communications District received a report of a shooting that occurred at Modoc Field across from Klamath Union High School. The initial report was a man had been shot by another man wearing a face mask, and the shooter had left in a grey sedan towards the downtown area.

Crews also made progress in creating fuel breaks and tracking and assessing resources along the Union Pacific Railroad in the Odell Lake area. Hand crews continued to remove vegetation between Odell Lake and Crescent Lake and have completed one and a half miles of the shaded fuel break. Brush removal and fuel breaks continued between the road and the residences along Forest Service Road 60. Structure crews worked with the Oregon State Fire Marshall’s office on structure assessments around the Crescent Lake area to plan for protection needs.
