Whittemore Passes Ban on “Timed” Water Softeners
–The Whittemore City Council approved a resolution on Monday that will call for the removal of any “timed” water softeners within the community. Whittemore City Clerk Linda Farrell tells KLGA News this is part of their efforts to improve their sanitary sewer system and meet requirements from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.

The full weekend livestream will be available for a $40 donation and feature local community members and their stories throughout an evening session on Friday, and daytime and evening sessions on Saturday. Belle Plaine car show sees success in new location
BELLE PLAINE, Iowa (KCRG) - One of the biggest 4th of July events in Belle Plaine is parked in a new location. The Belle Plaine Car show is at Franklin Park instead of downtown this year. Some 80 car lovers are showing off their vehicles everything from classic roadsters to modern sports cars. There are a couple of motorcycles on display as well.

Several hundred fish in Iowa died in January after a faulty pipe released chlorinated water into a local waterway. The Gazette reported that NS Holdings LLC has agreed to pay $7,500 after an unoccupied commercial building it owns polluted McLoud Run in Cedar Rapids with about 450,000 gallons of chlorinated drinking water, killing about 400 fish.

Mental Health Call Leads To Road Closure Near Swan Lake Tuesday Night
No injuries were reported after a mental health call led to road closures Tuesday night west of Swan Lake State Park. According to the Carroll Police Department, law enforcement received a mental health call at approximately 10:23 p.m. The caller reported a subject was suicidal and had left their home in a vehicle with a handgun. Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the individual near the intersection of 220th Street and Mahogany Avenue south of Carroll a short time later. The subject refused to exit their vehicle, and law enforcement opted to close Grant Road/Mahogany Avenue from Brookdale to 220th Street out of an abundance of caution. Law enforcement negotiated with the individual for approximately 40 minutes before surrendering. The subject was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for an evaluation. Officers cleared the scene around 11:30 p.m.
