Iberia Veterans Association celebrates Memorial Day

NEW IBERIA, La. ( KLFY ) – Memorial Day is about honoring and remembering those who have served, fought, and died for our country. In New Iberia, a ceremony doing just that is being held.

Holding its annual Memorial Day ceremony, the Iberia Veterans Associations honors fallen soldiers in downtown New Iberia. Percy Barrilleaux, Army Veteran and president of the Iberia Veterans Association , says this is something that is needed to remind people of the soldiers who made the sacrifice. “People have a misconception that it’s for all veterans. It’s not for all of us, it’s for those that paid the ultimate price.”

He also says the honor fallen soldiers receive for their sacrifice is unfathomable and “We owe such a great deal to these people that that gave their lives for us.” he says people cannot imagine what that is like.

Navy and Army veteran Lee Dautreuil say he comes to the memorial ceremony every year it is put on. “I think it’s a great day to remember all the people, all the men that lost their lives that never returned home.”
