LAKE CHARLES, La. ( KLFY ) — A Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy was fired and then arrested after allegedly bringing contraband into the Calcasieu Correctional Center, according to authorities.

Christopher Ryan, 28, of Lake Charles, is charged with malfeasance in office and prohibited contraband in a penal institution, police said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory fired Ryan, who had been a correctional deputy for one year.

Ryan is accused of bringing unspecified contraband into the Calcasieu Correctional Center for inmates and receiving payments in exchange, according to Guillory.

“We take accusations such as this extremely serious and acted swiftly, beginning an investigation, in response to the tip we received,” Guillory said.  “As sheriff, it is my duty to uphold the highest standards of integrity within our department.  When a deputy betrays the trust of this office and the community by engaging in criminal activity, there is no room for leniency.”

    Bond was set at $150,000.
