ST. MARTINVILLE, La. ( KLFY ) — Two St. Martinville residents have filed a petition to begin a recall of a council member.

Ernest Bing and Kenrell Francois have filed the petition to recall Janise Anthony with the Louisiana Secretary of State .

Anthony was elected in 2022 as councilwoman for District 4 of the City of St. Martinville. She won the seat by two votes, 219-217, over James “Lil Jimmy” Charles in the April 30, 2022 election.

The organizers listed Anthony being “unfit for office, and has not represented the needs of the community” as the reason for the recall effort.

The filing starts the clock on the recall. Organizers have 90 days to collect enough signatures from registered voters. The petition requires the signatures of 40% of the 958 eligible voters in the district, or 383 valid signatures, to get the question on the ballot.
