    Louisiana among most deadly states for nighttime drives, study says

    BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A recent study found that Louisiana is in the top 10 states with the most crashes at night.

    The study, by Omega Law Group , identified the states where late-night driving is most dangerous, with Hawaii ranked as the deadliest. The data, based on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration from 2017 to 2021, reveals that 59.01% of fatal crashes in Hawaii occur after dark.

    Louisiana was ranked the ninth state where driving at night is the deadliest. According to the study, 55.54% of fatal crashes occurred at night. The state recorded 3,754 fatal crashes, with 2,085 happening at night.

    New Jersey was the tenth state with the most crashes at night. The study said out of 2,857 total fatal crashes, 1,556 happened at night.

    1. Hawaii – 59.01%
    2. California – 58.32%
    3. Florida – 58.30%
    4. Texas – 57.48%
    5. South Carolina – 56.75%
    6. Maryland – 56.37%
    7. Connecticut – 55.98%
    8. Rhode Island – 55.59%
    9. Louisiana – 55.54%
    10. New Jersey – 54.46%
