    Two people arrested in connection with New Iberia shootings

    NEW IBERIA, La. ( KLFY ) — Two men were arrested in connection with a pair of shootings in New Iberia earlier this year, one of them in connection with a homicide on Mothers Day , authorities said.

    The U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the New Iberia Police Department located and apprehended two wanted individuals Tuesday at an apartment in the 100 block of Reynolds Street.

    Edward King, Jr., 23, and Jacoby J. Johnson, 22, were wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Breaux Alley on April 1 that left five people injured, officials said.

    King was also wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred on May 12, Mothers Day, in the 1300 block of Jordan Street.

    After their arrest, a search warrant was executed at the location where the two were arrested. During the search, two firearms were located. One of the firearms was reported stolen from Lafayette, and the other was equipped with a “switch.”

    King and Johnson were booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. Bond details were not released.

    King was charged with:

    • Second degree murder
    • Four counts of attempted first degree murder
    • Two counts of illegal use of weapons
    • Two counts of carrying a firearm in a firearm free zone

    Johnson was charged with:

    • Four counts of attempted first degree murder
    • Two counts of illegal use of weapons
    • Two counts of carrying a firearm in a firearm free zone

    Additional charges are pending, authorities said.
