    The Morning After: Nearly 400,000 without power in aftermath of Francine

    ( KLFY ) — The morning after the arrival of Hurricane Francine, nearly 400,000 customers are in the dark, according to PowerOutage.us .

    As of 7:30 a.m. Thursday, 390,404 customers in Louisiana were without power, according to the website, which shows reported outages for customers of multiple power suppliers, such as Cleco , SLECMO , Entergy and more.

    The National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Francine made landfall Wednesday afternoon about 30 miles south-southwest of Morgan City as a Category 2 storm.

    In St. Mary Parish, 13,859 of the 19,005 customers tracked were without power. Iberia Parish had a reported 3,042 outages as of 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

    In a news release, Cleco Director of Distribution Operations and Reliability Clint Robichaux said approximately of its 37,000 customers statewide were without power.

    “Cleco and contractor crews have been mobilized. We are surveying the damage and making repairs to begin power restoration,” Robichaux said. “So far our damage assessments have uncovered multiple broken poles, downed wire and some equipment damage.”

    Statewide, Terrebonne Parish, where the storm made landfall, reports 25,623 of its 27,317 customers without power. Nearby Lafourche Parish, which was also in the direct path of the storm, reports 35,770 of its 42,727 customers out. Jefferson Parish reports 67,644 outages, just over 31% of its customers.
