AVOYELLES PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — A Florida man is facing charges after allegedly bringing packages, bags, and fake guns into the parish courthouse while concealing his face, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced.

Jaymes Edward Baker, of Mulberry, Fla., was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with terrorizing and simple assault, the sheriff’s office said. No bond has been set at this time.

The charges stem from an incident reported several minutes after noon Thursday.

According to investigators, a 911 caller reported that a man had entered the Avoyelles Parish Courhouse in Marksville with fake plastic guns, was carrying packages and bags, and was wearing items to cover his face.

The courthouse and the surrounding area were evacuated for public safety. Police said no explosives were found after searching the area and searching the bags and packages carried by the man.

The area was reopened to the public around 1:40 p.m.

“APSO detectives learned that Baker allegedly went there to make a statement about his dissatisfaction with civil proceedings in a child custody matter,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The incident remains under investigation.
