YOUNGSVILLE, La. ( KLFY ) — Authorities are addressing a vague school threat at a Youngsville school this morning.

Students at Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy reported an email that purportedly threatened a shooting to take place on Friday, but police said it’s been overblown by rumors and not likely to be serious.

Youngsville Police Chief Cody Louviere said the threat was not made directly to the school.

“There was no specific threat made towards ARCA,” Louviere said. “This email came from a trending nationwide issue. There were a few children that were sharing ‘hearsay’ information that was not accurate in nature and has since been dealt with accordingly by my staff in coordination with the ARCA administration. As always my team takes any comments or threats toward a school seriously and are on full alert everyday to stop any person’s that wish to harm the children or faculty of our schools.”

Louviere said a few students were sharing Snapchats with hearsay information.

“All of the children involved have been spoken to and dealt with by law enforcement in conjunction with the schools administration,” he said.

The school also addressed the issue in a text message to parents, saying the threats were made to several school across the country.

“We have not been given any reason to believe these are substantiated threats directed to our school, however, we always take threats seriously,” the message read. “ARCA will maintain extra vigilance, carefully follow all security protocols, and report any suspicious behavior to local law enforcement.”

The school said all classes and procedures will continue as normal when school resumes today after the two-day break due to Hurricane Francine.
