ST. MARY PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — While recovery is still underway in Patterson after Hurricane Francine made landfall last week, residents say what is helping them the most is each other.

Resident Hope Aucoin said that neighborly support is part of being in a small town.

“…We will always have each other’s backs,” she said.

Hurricane Francine caused wind and debris damage when it passed through the area. That impact is still felt a week later and in many communities in lower Louisiana.

Trees were ‘bending like straws’ during Hurricane Francine, Patterson residents say

“Everybody was downplaying it, but it ended up hitting harder than a lot of people would have expected,” Aucoin said.

Locals said their neighbors took immediate action to acknowledge the help their community needed to make sure their city continues moving forward.

“Everything’s going to be all right,” said long-time Patterson resident Lester Thomas.

“It’s a very I scratch your back, scratch mine,” Aucoin said.
