LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — The third suspect of the deadly barbershop shooting is no stranger to murder allegations. However, the case didn’t get beyond a grand jury the last time he was accused of murder.

On Thursday, 23-year-old Abram Landry was arrested in connection with the late August shooting at a Lafayette barbershop that claimed the lives of 19-year-old Quincy Duhon Jr. and 48-year-old Johnny Trailer Jr .

The last time he was accused of murder was in 2021 and in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Shayne Burke. In the days following that shooting, eyewitnesses told KLFY News 10 that Burke was shot mere feet away from his mother’s home on Peach Street and that she held him in her arms as neighbors called 911.

Burke was a father, leaving behind a daughter who was not even one year old when he died.

What happened with the 2021 murder case?

Landry was arrested in November 2021 by the Grand Coteau Police Department in connection with Burke’s death and charged with second-degree murder and simple burglary. He was held on a $360,000 bond.

Lafayette District Attorney Don Landry said the murder case was “pretermitted due to the grand jury wanting more evidence.”

That “more evidence” was not found, which resulted in the case being closed for now.

District Attorney Don Landry said if more evidence is presented, that case could be reopened.

    Abram Landry’s criminal history

Abram has been accused of various offenses in Lafayette and Calcasieu parishes with some of the earliest charges going back to 2018.

2018 and 2019: He was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, delinquency of a minor, possession of cocaine, and resisting arrest. Those cases were dismissed.

2020: He was arrested by the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office in connection with a drive-by shooting that occurred in Lake Charles. He was charged with assault by drive-by shooting and illegal use of a weapon while committing a crime of violence. His bond was set at $75,000.

June 2021: Landry was a victim of a shooting near the Lafayette Police Department.

November 2021: Landry was arrested in connection with Burke’s death.

September 2024: Landry was arrested in connection with the barbershop murders.

    Outstanding warrants in Calcasieu

According to the Calcasieu Parish Clerk of Court, Landry has outstanding warrants and charges out there as well.

Those outstanding warrants and charges include domestic abuse aggravated assault, illegal use of a weapon, aggravated criminal damage to property, aggravated assault with a firearm, and simple battery. Other charges reported are possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest by failing to stop.

    Barbershop murders

Landry was arrested on Thursday in Lake Charles and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. He was taken to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on Friday, where he is waiting to make his first court appearance in the barbershop murders case.

The shooting occurred around 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, at a barbershop on Louisiana Avenue between Mudd Avenue and Simcoe Street.

Responding officers found two victims at the scene. Duhon was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Trailer was pronounced dead at the scene. Duhon died from his injuries days later.

Other suspects arrested in the case include Jeffre y Broussard and Shylon Mouton, aged 17 and of Lafayette.

Landry, Broussard and Mouton each face two counts of first-degree murder.
