ST. MARY PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is in Morgan City with a disaster recovery center to help those impacted by Hurricane Francine.

“When it comes to your individual household, if you’ve received damage, you know, we’re here to help all those anyone who has received damage,” said FEMA Spokesperson Keith Jones.

The center is located at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. It is set up to give one-on-one assistance to people in need following the storm. Residents can register for FEMA’s assistance at the center or online.

Jones said FEMA can provide a wide range of help to those who apply.

“We provide individual assistance not only in terms of property loss for your property as well as, you know, the internal property to your house. There’s also this displacement help,” Jones said.

“If you were displaced and needed to get a hotel room, we can help you with some of that as well as serious needs assistance if you received damage. Get your inspection done. We’ll cut you a check for $750,” Jones continued.

News 10 spoke with people living in one of the many areas heavily impacted by the storm. Reports of high water destroying houses from the inside and out along with vehicles being made useless from damage.

Marcelle Hoskins is a resident whose home had serious water damage.

“I hope FEMA can come in and bring some campers to kind of help take care of stuff,” she said.

Herman Chenevert lost his entire home and is without a place to stay.

“I tried to get into some FEMA supply, and they said they would get to me as soon as possible,” he said.

The disaster recovery center will be open from Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a month.
