LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will be lowering the university flag to half-staff on Thursday in memory of an engineering student who died in a crash on Friday.

In a social media post , the university said 18-year-old Karson Scott Estilette was a freshman from Carencro pursuing a mechanical engineering degree.

“His friends and family remain in the thoughts, hearts and prayers of many at the university,” the social media post read.

Estilette died in a motorcycle-vehicle crash Friday that occurred near the intersection of University Avenue and Simcoe Street.

According to Lafayette police, the crash occurred when a truck, that was traveling on University, made a left turn onto Simcoe Street. The truck turned in front of the motorcycle that Estilette was riding northbound on University.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday in Carencro.

In his obituary , Estilette is described as a caring young man who had a strong work ethic.

“He was the most lovable kid that anyone could meet. Karson also made sure you knew just how much he loved you too with the never-ending hugs and kisses he constantly gave you. He was always surrounded by those he cared about and valued the time spent with them,” his obituary read.

Estilette planned to move to Florida after ULL to continue his education in aerospace. His goal was to design space shuttles and aircraft.

“The only thing we know for sure was that he wasn’t going to stop until his dreams were fulfilled,” his obituary read.
