ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — A $1.2 million project is in the works to give the historic St. Martin Parish Courthouse a fresh look.

Parish President Pete Delcambre said the 160-year-old courthouse will receive a few alterations to modernize the historic building.

“What has happened at the time that the original construction occurred, the roof still had some mileage on it and 10 years removed, that roof now needs to be changed,” Delcambre said.

Delcambre said the inside was completely remodeled years back. Now, workers are perfecting the exterior.

“They have combined it with some upgrades to the exterior, painting, gutters, and just a cosmetic facelift, so to speak, and this should finalize the original budgeting and money that was available for the courthouse,” Delcambre said.

Some roads near the courthouse will be closed during the day while construction takes place. Delcambre said while the parish continues evolve and grow, the history of the area will always remain the same.

“The economic impact and the movement of money in St. Martin Parish has kind of changed. But St. Martin Parish, St. Martinville is still the hub of St. Martin Parish in regard to the courthouse and the activities there in,” Delcambre said.

The parish hopes to have construction complete by early 2025, Delcambre said.
