NEW IBERIA, La. ( KLFY ) — Mildred Walker said she paid $900 upfront to purchase a Chevy Traverse. Now she believes she may have been scammed because the man never returned with a receipt or the vehicle.

Walker said she thought the man was a legitimate seller but the man hasn’t answered any calls from her or her family since the payment.

“Never heard from him. [I’m] still waiting. I called, my daughter called, my nephew called, my son called, my son-in-law called, I called early this morning when I got up three times, [and he] still never answered the phone,” Walker said.

Walker said her daughter spoke with the man Thursday, Oct. 3, at a store in Broussard. The man asked her daughter if she knew anyone in her family interested in buying a Chevy Traverse for $3,100.

The daughter called Walker to let her know about the vehicle. Walker said she was interested in purchasing the vehicle and invited him to her home to speak with him about purchasing it.

“He said ‘Well, I’m going now’ but before that, he said ‘Let me see your driver’s license.’ He screenshotted it on his phone, and he said ‘Well now I’m gonna go bring everything to my aunt, she’s going to do the paperwork, when I come back, then I’ll bring you a receipt,'” Walker said.

Walker said she gave the man $900 as a down payment for the vehicle but hasn’t heard from him since. She said she hopes that sharing her story can stop it before it happens to someone else.

“That hurt me so bad. I went into my room and cried. We are elderly, they prey on the elderly, we need to get this out before he can have a chance to do this to somebody else,” Walker said.

Walker said she has filed a police report with the New Iberia Police Department.

Sorry to hear that, I got scammed from a black guy in Abbevile last month for $5000, but some of it was our fault, the title we found out after was no good, come to find out the car was totaled before, we went back 3 days later to so say get the right title, we waited up for him to come back, my daughter accidentally left the keys in the car, he distracted us, and his friend got in the car and never came back, stole 5 grand and kept the car, all paper work was in the car, went to police and they said nothing could be done without proof or bill of sale and it was in the car, we called him for weeks and he finally blocked all our numbers, lesson learned I will never ever trust a black guy ever ever again
