LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office says there’s a phone scam where the scammer is demanding payment while pretending to be a law enforcement officer.

In a social media post, the sheriff’s office advised that it does not seek any type of payment over the phone.

If you are called by someone requesting money and pretending to be a law enforcement officer, do not give the scammer any money. Instead, hang up and contact law enforcement immediately, the sheriff’s office said.

“The forms of payment the scammer requests are most often non-traceable and non-transferable, so recovery seldom happens,” the sheriff’s office said in the social media post.

If you have questions about a possible warrant or about how to make a payment for the various services offered by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office, call (337) 232-9211.
