OPELOUSAS, La. ( KLFY ) — Bethany Stoute is not only a force to be reckoned with on the volleyball court. The Westminster Crusader is also into track and field, basketball and soccer.

Stoute is going into her second year as a goalie in soccer, third year playing basketball and fourth year throwing the javelin and discus in track and field.

With volleyball season already underway, stoute is in her fifth year as a middle blocker.

But when did she start playing varsity volleyball?

“Freshman year, middle of the season,” she recalls. “When covid was going around, I got an opportunity to play around.”

That opportunity turned this Crusader into a leader.

Stoute is one of many seniors on the volleyball team but she says it doesn’t matter what grade you’re in, every girl on her team is a leader.

“It’s really a great culture and atmosphere to be around. All the girls love each other. Like I said, we’re all leaders. We all know how to pick each other up when we’re down. Just enjoying the time we have together and being present on the court so I think it’s an amazing experience that everyone deserves to be a part of,” she said.

The middle blocker says she loves her teammates and sees all the girls as sisters. She and teammate Anna Ware even have their celebration that they share.

“We’re attached at the hip during a game like 24-7 she says. We’re always chatting it up, you know, having a great time,” she said.

Outside of sports, Bethany loves studying to make good grades, going to church, and hanging out with family.

Stoute said her family has been her biggest supporter since she came to WCA-Opelousas in the eighth grade.

“My parents have been like amazing support systems, like I wouldn’t be here without them, honestly, because, you know, school, I’m blessed to be at a Christian school where I can learn about Jesus and learn about my salvation and all like the club sports and athletic fees and all that thing. I would not be here without them and their support,” she said.

At Westminster, Stoute is vice president of her class on the student council, helped start a fellowship with a group of girls to read God’s word. She also helped start the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, where she is a leader of the organization.

This Crusader still has some unfinished business on the volleyball court.

“I’ve been a part of this for so long and it would mean so much to see all these girls, you know, chase after our dreams,” she said. “And that is to win the state championship and like seeing what we all worked so hard for.”

Stoute isn’t yet sure where she wants to go to college, but she knows she wants to go into the medical field. The future x-ray tech said winning a championship will not be her most memorable moment as a Crusader.

“Winning is such a big honor and achievement but I think it would more so be the experiences leading up to that,” Stoute said. “What led me there, what made me grow into the player and person that I can be to lead that team to the state championship and hopefully win.”
