    17-year-old attempted murder suspect has escaped Jeanerette City Jail, authorities say

    JEANERETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Authorities are searching for a 17-year-old attempted murder suspect who allegedly escaped Jeanerette City Jail on Tuesday.

    In a social media post , the Jeanerette Police Department said Jaqualin Lewis escaped city jail just before 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Police said he ran away from the jail’s booking area.

    Lewis was being held on two counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of illegal carrying of a firearm in a school zone, police said.

    He was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black pants, and black Nike shoes.

    “Anyone caught with Jaqualin Lewis will be charged accordingly. Additional charges are pending,” police said in the news release.

    Police said Lewis is considered armed and dangerous, and citizens should not approach him.

    Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Jeanerette Police Department at 337-276-6323.
