Meet the Candidate: Ashlie Spiker for Iberia Parish Assessor

IBERIA PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — Jeanerette native Ashlie Spiker hopes to continue her role as the Iberia Parish Tax Assessor, saying she’s excited about the possibility of bringing new ideas to the parish.

Spiker began working at the Iberia Parish Assessor’s Office 20 years ago. In 2021, Spiker was appointed as Chief Deputy by former Iberia Parish Tax Assessor Taylor Barras. She was then sworn in as the Iberia Parish Tax Assessor earlier this year after Barras vacated his seat.

“This is a special election because the assessor’s normal cycle is they reign in 23 for 25. Assessor Barras was unopposed in 23, so he had already won the 25 term,” Spiker said.

Spiker said this is her first time running for assessor since being sworn in earlier this year. She is looking forward to this election and is excited to potentially bring more ideas to the parish, one of which is a new app to communicate with residents about any questions or issues they may have.

“I just signed a contract for an app to be able to communicate with those that have apps. I know that won’t touch every constituent, but I believe it will get to a bunch. We’re looking forward to that,” Spiker said.

Spiker said she is devoted to continuing her work in property assessment and that she would love nothing more than to be elected as the Iberia Parish Assessor.

“I have been committed to that office for 20 years, so I want to stay and I want to continue a great job. I love what I do, I truly do,” Spiker said.
