SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS )- On Oct. 16, 1954, 19-year-old Elvis Presley stepped onto the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium stage for the first time.

Keeping it Country and the Elvis Angles fan club celebrated the anniversary on the steps of the auditorium, which at the time was home to the Louisiana Hayride , a radio program broadcast live from Shreveport on KWKH-AM to over 28 states.

A proclamation from the Shreveport mayor declared it Elvis Presley Day. Shreveport native and Elvis’s backup singer from 1969 until his death in 1977 Estelle Brown was on hand for the occasion.

“It brings back memories,” Brown said. “I remember the good times that we had. I remember singing with him in Vegas and on the road. It was just great. It’s a good feeling when you have good memories of somebody.”
