Man dies in Dejean Circle shooting, suspect turns self in

UPDATE, 10/19/24, 2 p.m.: Crowley Police Chief Troy Hebert has confirmed that Johnus Lambert, 30, has turned himself in and is charged with first degree murder in connection with this shooting.

UPDATE, 10/18/2024, 9:30 p.m.: The shooting on Dejean Circle in Crowley has resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man, authorities said.

Crowley police said the victim is Travis Trentel Thorne.

According to a news release, police went to the 600 block of Dejean Circle in response to a reported shooting. Responding officers found the victim lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to his neck, middle torso, right forearm and wrist.

Emergency medicine technicians responded to the scene but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. Crowley police said Thorne was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said 30-year-old Johnus Lambert was identified as a suspect.

Lambert is accused of engaging in a fistfight with Thorne before the shooting occurred.

Police said Lambert allegedly fled the scene in a silver 2011 Nissan Maxima.

CROWLEY, La. ( KLFY ) — An investigation is underway after a shooting was reported Friday on Dejean Circle in Crowley, authorities said.

Dejean Circle is located on the west side of town. Authorities emphasized that the shooting did not occur near the International Rice Festival.

Investigators are gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses.
