LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — The conviction of Rochelle Chrisphter Bruno on several drug charges is a big win for the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, District Attorney Don Landry says. It is a conviction that the DA’s Office hopes will send a message to those bringing “poison” into the community.

An Acadia Parish jury unanimously found Bruno guilty of charges including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl, and possession of oxycodone.

Landry said fentanyl is a dangerous drug.

“Please have a talk with your children and your grandchildren, your neighbors’ children, because it takes such a small amount of fentanyl that can result in the death of an individual,” Landry said.

He says a big problem is that it’s so easy to get.

“The young people especially are ordering drugs on the internet, and they think they’re getting something like oxycodone or some similar drug when in fact these people are cutting these drugs with fentanyl,” he said.

“They don’t realize they’re getting fentanyl. They think they’re getting something else, and it’s being put in here by these drug dealers. They’re not chemists for sure so they don’t know what they’re doing. They just adding it, adding it to the other drugs so they can make more money.”

Landry said he hopes people, especially the youth, are paying attention.

“Don’t even take a drug that maybe your best friend is offering you at some party because the best friend doesn’t know what’s in that drug. They don’t know that that drug might have been cut with fentanyl, and the consequences are so terrible,” Landry said.

The district attorney also said a big part of putting drug dealers away is because of the hard work of law enforcement.
