New School ecology project inspires personal essays
HOOD RIVER — This spring, New School students completed the culminating project of their ecology unit with a closer investigation of cougar management practices in Klickitat County. They learned about the delicate balance of ecosystems and the role of keystone species. Then, they learned about the local issue of cougar management from Bob Songer, sheriff of Klickitat County, Todd Jacobsen, a wildlife conflict specialist with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the Mountain Lion Foundation. Students compared the various points of view, and wrote their personal perspective on the issue in a Letter to the Editor format. Five of these students wish to share their perspectives with you today.
