SAN ANGELO, Texas — In some Tuesday night high school boys playoff action, the Robert Lee Steers took on the Garden City Bearkats in the 1A Regional Quarterfinals at Angelo State.

Robert Lee would go on to defeat Garden City 45-31 in the 1A Regional Quarterfinals to advance to the 1A Regional Tournament for the first time in 28 years.

“This is awesome, like, I’m so proud of these guys. Like, last year, I was just saying our goal was just to get into the playoffs, and we knew this year if we could get in the top three, compete for the district, that we could get to the third round, we had the chance,” said Steven Hayes, Steers head basketball coach.

“I don’t think we’ve been to the Regional Tournament since like Dr. Hood was in school, and he’s our superintendent now, so I mean it’s good for the program and all the players. It’s exciting for the community and everybody’s ready for it,” said Steers senior, Brody Pitcock.

“We got to work for whoever we’re playing. It’s either, I think it’s Westbrook or Eula, we just got to keep playing ball,” said Steers sophomore, Brenner Sherwood. “It means a lot; it’s been, it’s been a long, long time and hopefully we can just keep on going.”

Robert Lee will take on Eula in the 1A Regional Tournament, on Friday in Snyder, at the WTC Coliseum. More details on that game to come.
