Renowned astronaut to speak to SAISD fifth graders

SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — Due to a partnership between the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum and San Angelo Independent School District, astronaut Dr. Jose Hernandez will be speaking to fifth graders within the district on Sept. 16.

The San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum shared that during the morning presentation. Dr. Hernandez will share insight into his career as an astronaut which includes his role and work in developing groundbreaking medical imaging systems.

“We are honored to collaborate with San Angelo Independent School District to offer this extraordinary experience to our local students,” said Suzanna Valenzuela, Vice-President of the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum. “Dr. Hernandez’s story of overcoming obstacles and achieving great heights in the field of space exploration will undoubtedly serve as a powerful inspiration for our young learners. It’s a wonderful way to kick off our Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations and foster a deeper connection to the values of perseverance and excellence.”

SAISD Superintendent Dr. Christopher Moran shared that the school district is excited to welcome Dr. Hernandez and encourage students to pursue their dreams.

“This partnership underscores our commitment to providing engaging educational experiences and celebrating the diverse heritage of our community,” said Dr. Moran. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Hernandez to our schools as we encourage our students to dream big and pursue their passions with tenacity!”

During the evening of Sept. 16, Dr, Hernandez will be the keynote speaker at the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Month Banquet at the McNease Convention Center. Individual tickets for the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Month Banquet are sold out.
