    Woman sentenced for stealing over $2M from Wall Co-Op Country Store

    SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — Dozens of people packed the courtroom to hear the sentencing of a woman who stole more than $2 million from the Wall Co-Op Country Store on Thursday, Aug. 29.

    Mina Abbott was sentenced to 42 months in jail for unauthorized transactions with an access device in federal court and the restitution of $2,146,885.19.

    Abbott, who had worked at the store for 25 years, wrote over 300 checks and made over 300 withdrawals. During the sentencing, it was stated that the embezzlement affected over 400 Co-Op members. Two victims took the stand to share how Abbott had damaged the Co-Op’s reputation and business dealings along with their mental and emotional health.

    Concho Valley Homepage staff reported that Abbott sobbed while giving an apology to the victims, friends and families.

    According to court documents, Abbott embezzled a total of $2,146,885.19 from the Wall Co-Op Country Store. Previous reports from Concho Valley Homepage shared that Abbott spent $176,569.73 from May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023. Abbott also conducted transactions during a vacation in July 2022 and a personal trip in 2023. These included:

    • Several withdrawals at ATM machines
    • Charges of $500.88 at Academy Sporting Goods and $726.45 at Walmart in Owensboro, Kentucky
    • A charge of $557.99 at the Opry Shop and a charge of $294.41 at Enterprise Rent-a-Car in Nashville, Tennessee
    • Several unauthorized charges made in Boston, Massachusetts

    This case was first brought to light in September 2023 when the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into long-term money theft at the store eventually revealed that approximately $100,000 had been stolen. Abbott plead guilty to the charge earlier in 2024.
